On 18th August, the "Hardest Day", Peter was shot down by a Messerschmitt Bf109 of Fighter Geschwader 3, near Kenley at 1.23pm. It was only his eighth sortie. Tragically, in apparently trying to avoid some houses, his Hurricane Mk.I (P2768) crashed onto Morden Park Golf Course and he was killed.
On 5th July 1942, No.611 squadron, stationed at Kenley, lost Sergeant Pilot Alexander James Proctor Walton and Warrant Officer Victor Cecil Mayo Wheeler, when Miles Magister Mk.I (L8130), stalled during low level aerobatics and crashed at Woldingham.
On 28th January 1944, P/O Claude Weaver DFM, an American flying with 403 squadron, RCAF, was reported as missing after a fighter sortie, bringing to a close a short, but eventful flying career.
On 15th February 1943, Flying Officer Harold Andrew Westhaver and Pilot Officer William Lane, of 403 Squadron RCAF, took off from Kenley to look for targets of opportunity on the ground in France.
Thomas Emrys Westmoreland, son of Thomas Gladstone Westmoreland, a wine and spirit merchant, and Louisa Ann Westmoreland (nee Bray) was born in Huddersfield on 5th June 1913.

Richard Clare Whittaker was a Suffolk lad, born on 26 November 1919 in Yoxford. After attending Framlingham College, between 1931 and 1937, he joined the RAF on a Short Service Commission in January 1938.
Kenneth Victor Williams was born on 16 September 1915 in Fairfield, Victoria to Arthur John Williams and Ethel May (nee Hems) Williams.
William Douglas Willis, the son of Henry Samuel and Alice Margaret (nee Nice) Willis, was born in South Yarra, Victoria on 26 April 1917.
On 22nd May 1925, No.32 Squadron had flown from Kenley to Northolt, to take part in an event entitled 'London Defended.' Among them was 21 year old, Arthur Reinagle Woodyatt.
On 22nd November, 1926, No.24 squadron tragically lost two of its officers in a flying accident at 1.30pm, when their DH9A, serial number 7310, stalled on take-off from Kenley.
