PHILLIP LESLIE IRVING ARCHER was born on the 10th February, 1917, in Bridgetown, Barbados. He was the son of Frederick Leslie Archer (a famous cricketer) and Millicent Beryl Archer, of Belleville, Hastings, Barbados.
On 16th August 1941, the Kenley Wing had a very busy day, flying three separate offensive operations. It wasn't without cost though, as No.602 squadron lost Sgt. Cyril Anderson Booty on his second sortie of the day.
On Saturday 4 April, 1942, New Zealander Pilot Officer Fox, known as ‘Dene’, was 21 years old with 259 flying hours to his credit. He had been posted to 485 Squadron RNZAF the previous month and was still a novice at operational flying.

On Sunday 24th October, 1943, the 403 squadron, RCAF, Operations Record Book records the loss of F/L Herbert John Southwood, who went missing in the vicinity of Doullens, France.
Robert was with 416 squadron while they were at Redhill in the Autumn of 1942 and then moved with them to RAF Kenley only two days before he lost his life flying Spitfire Vb EP493, on the 3rd February, 1943
