On 17th March 1930, Flight Lieutenant Richard Llewellyn Roger Atcherley of 23 squadron, Kenley, flew to Farnborough with Sergeant John Martin, in J7519, a dual control Gloster Grebe.
At 10.15pm on the night of Tuesday 19th September, 1931, a tragic accident took the life of 26 year old Corporal Frederick James McKenna, whose car collided with a signpost at Alderstead Heath, Merstham.
On 10th February 1939, Pilot Officer Jack Driscol Mills, of No.3 squadron, lost his life when his Gloster Gladiator (K7955) crashed into Firle Beacon, south-east of Lewes, Sussex, in thick fog.
