On 3rd May 1919, Captain Edward Middleton Knott AFC lost his life when the Airco DH4A he was flying suffered engine failure on take-off from RAF Kenley.
Harold Henry Allgood was born in Cambridge in July 1915 and educated at the Central School. On leaving school, in July 1931, he joined the RAF at Halton as an apprentice metal rigger that September.
On 5th February 1941, Flying Officer Lewis's Hawker Hurricane (P3920) was hit and the engine caught fire. He radioed his position and baled out of his burning aircraft, but sadly, lost his life in the icy waters of the English Channel.
On 2nd October 1919, Flying Officer Frederick Hubert Guy Shepard AFC, of No.1 Communication squadron, Kenley, lost his life when his DH4 bi-plane, (K5783), suffered a mechanical failure during a flight to the North-East of England, and crashed in the Newcastle area.
Robert was with 416 squadron while they were at Redhill in the Autumn of 1942 and then moved with them to RAF Kenley only two days before he lost his life flying Spitfire Vb EP493, on the 3rd February, 1943
