In memory of
Flying Officer Charles Henry Jones
On 14th August 1929, Flying Officer Charles Henry Jones of No.23 squadron, RAF Kenley, was killed when his Gloster Gamecock Mk.I (J7914) stalled off a steep turn shortly after take-off from RAF Sutton Bridge.
According to an eyewitness report at the inquest into the death of the pilot:
The machine took off normally but seemed to turn too steeply and hit the ground with the engine full on. The machine, which had 200 rounds of ammunition on board, caught fire on impact.
Flying Officer Jones was 24 years old when he died.
Rest in peace Sir and thank you for your service.
