Paul Burchell has fond memories of 615VGS at Kenley..
The first photo shows the 615VGS Bessonneau hangar after it collapsed under the weight of snow in January 1987.
The second photo is the 615VGS Headquarters building, now sadly demolished, after being “raided” by 618VGS, West Malling, who were great rivals of 615VGS. An attempt was made to scuff the 8 into a 5!
The building stood where the current 615VGS “compound” is today, to the right of the crash gate at the end of Victor Beamish Avenue.
In the third photo, the old 615VGS Headquarters building is to the right, with the unit’s sign board in front. Next to it is one of the airfield’s Air Ministry marker stones (not in its original position). The coach in the background belonged to 450ATC and in the distance, the workshop buildings can be seen, with what was at that time the NAAFI shop, now the Focus School, to the right.
The last photo is a recent addition from Keith Chandler, and shows the interior of the Bessonneau hangar after its collapse in January 1987, and Keith’s favourite Schleicher ASW19, “squashed” inside!
