Visitor Information

Kenley common

Visitor Access

Kenley Common (CR3 5LZ) is easily accessed through several different methods of transport. Always remember that Kenley is an active airfield for gliders, so for your safety remain outside of the yellow line at all times.

Train

The closest stations to Kenley Common are Whyteleafe South, Whyteleafe Rail Station and Upper Warlingham Rail Station. All are within a 15 minute walk of the eastern edge of Kenley Common.

Bus

The Southdown PSV 409  service runs Monday to Saturdays from Selsdon to East Grinstead via Caterham and stops by Kenley Common on Buxton Lane, Ninehams Road.

The Transport for London 466 service runs Monday to Sundays from Addington Village and stops at either Coulsdon Common / The Fox or Caterham-on-the-hill at the Tesco. Both are a 15 minute walk to the air-field which is sign-posted as ‘RAF Kenley Tribute’ or you may see signs for ‘Surrey Hills gliding club’.

At many events we offer a free local minibus – check out our events page!

Car

Kenley Common lies close to junction 7 of the M25. There is no public car park on Kenley Common although free car parking is available in a layby in Hayes Lane which runs around the airfield.

Portcullis club

Some of our events take place in the Portcullis Club. Follow directions to Victor Beamish Avenue (CR3 0HA) to the end (you will see the gliders and the Surrey Hills Gliding Club) and then turn right through the gates and you will see the club house in front of you.

Visitor Facilities

The perimeter track which runs around the airfield is a hard surfaced track which is accessible for wheelchair and pushchair users.

Around the airfield perimeter track on Kenley Common there is a Heritage Trail which follows a series of illustrated display boards documenting the history of Kenley Airfield during the Battle of Britain.

Standing in the corner of Kenley Airfield is The Portcullis Clubhouse, housing a comprehensive collection of pictures and artefacts dating back to the 1920s. For more information about the Portcullis Club, find out how you can become a member.
